The Shafer Art Gallery will host an area high school juried art exhibit titled the “Vortex Exhibit,” which will be on display Feb. 20 - 28 and will culminate with an awards ceremony at 1 p.m. on Feb. 28 in the Fine Arts Auditorium, which will also cap off Vortex Fine and Performing Arts Day.Barnes said exhibiting the art of younger people from the area creates a unique style and energy for the gallery.“The Vortex Exhibit is great because it presents a very youthful and adventurous point of view,” Barnes said. “We really get to see young creative minds at work.”The exhibit features entries from area high school students in a variety of mediums from painting to various 3D entries. The exhibit serves as the framework for Vortex Fine and Performing Arts Day, which is designed to stimulate and enhance students’ interest and excitement in the arts. Students have the option to sign up for various workshops, and Barton faculty will be presenting in various areas including arts, music, theatre, dance, creative writing and storytelling.The Shafer Gallery’s regular hours are 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 1-4 p.m. on Sundays.
