During the Fourth of July, dry weather conditions and local burn bans prohibited the annual fireworks display from happening as scheduled. However, the City of Great Bend has announced that the fireworks display has been rescheduled for Saturday, September 22nd. Unlike previous years, this year's show will take place at the Great Bend Municipal Airport in conjunction with the Great Bend AirFest going on that weekend. The airport will offer free admission to the AirFest event after 7 p.m., which is when the POW-MIA ceremony starts. Following the ceremony, the fireworks display will take place at dark. And right after the fireworks, spectators can stay and enjoy a 1940s dance with live dancers to show how it's done!Spectators can also view the fireworks display from the Great Bend Expo Complex, where the Big Bend Bike Rally (motorcycle rally) will be taking place. The bike rally will offer $5 admission for those coming to view the fireworks and then you can stay to enjoy a live band (bluegrass sensation Split Lip Rayfield) and a covered beer garden until midnight.Cars will need to enter the airport from Airport Road, which is located 2 miles west of Great Bend (between W. 10th Street & Highway 56 near Straub International). The map shows where vehicles can park and where the fireworks will be shot from. Spectators can watch the show from their vehicles or find a seat on the concrete area on the east side of the runway.
